UTEX® "KF" Design
Hydraulic Ram Seals (PATENTED)

The Utex® "KF" Design seal has taken the
place of ordinary hydraulic ram seals. Engineered to provide service, this
one-piece seal 'floats' in the stuffing box without the need for pedestal or
filler rings. This unique design is more cost-effective and can be used in
existing stuffing boxes with none of the expensive modifications required with
other products.
The standard Utex "KF" seal is available in
polyurethane or in a rubber/fabric composition. The polyurethane "KF"
seal is extremely flexible and easy to install. The abrasion resistance, high
tensile strength, water resistance, and low coefficient of friction of
polyurethane make it a superior material choice for any general service
application. These properties of polyurethane, combined with the latest
technology in lip design, provide a seal with more concentrated lip contact and
superior wiping action. A complete range of compounds are available for all
hydraulic fluids, at temperatures as high as 200°F.
The rubber/fabric composition "KF" seal has
oil-resistant elastomeric sealing lips backed by a fabric composition heel. The
heel composition and the geometry of the sealing lips are significant features
of this seal not found in more conventional u-cups. This unique combination
allows for the resilient elastomeric seal lips to respond instantly to any
changes in pressure without affecting the performance of the seal. These sealing
lips are self-actuated by layers of fabric reinforcement molded into the groove
area of the seal. Unlike conventional all-fabric seals, our design does not
suffer from compression set that can cause leakage at low pressures. The fabric
in the heel acts as an anti-extrusion and anti-blowout device for the lips,
while maintaining the integrity of a one-piece seal. The fabric heel also
gathers lubrication during use which helps lubricate the cylinder wall or ram
surface, thereby reducing wear and friction which can reduce seal life. Another
important feature of the Utex "KF" seal is the increased volume of
material in the heel to help resist rolling during service, while increasing the
wear capabilities far beyond other seals.
The Utex "KF" seal needs no adjustment since
it is designed to 'float' in existing stuffing boxes. Simply tighten the gland
metal-to-metal and the seal is ready to perform. No break-in lubricant is
necessary and no special adjustments are required. The "KF" seal has
been field tested in various hydraulic applications, and in all cases the seals
have performed successfully, even in the constant bumping action seen in large
hydraulic presses.

standard materials, as well as special engineered compounds such as those
